Interesting aspects in Lecce

Most interesting aspects in Lecce, which are related to the history of the modern and contemporary art, you can see the architectural details and sculptures of its Baroque palaces that conceal hidden anecdotes, superstitions and legends. If you stroll through the narrow streets of the old town, and you get to Palazzo Giaconia, in via Scipione de Summa.

This is a sixteenth century mansion in Durazzesque Catalan style and is considered among the greatest of Lecce and has two entrances. This palace was built by Monsignor Giaconia, the Bishop of Castro. Over the centuries years he had different uses. At the end of the eighteenth century it was acquired by Lopez y Royo family. In the second half of 1800 it was restored and the restoration brought to light a big secret lounge, upholstered in black and with big candles and various skulls. After some time the mystery of the room and symbols found there as a compass, line, a trowel and archipendolo carved on the chimney and cornice of the building was unveiled. It was learned that since 1804 had been the seat of the first Masonic lodge in Lecce and in that hall meetings were held affiliates.
