Salento, a mix of history, beaches, food and wine

In recent years Salento has become one of the most visited tourist destinations not only for Italians, but for all tourists in the world. When talking about Salento is referred to a geographical area in southern Puglia and between the Ionian Sea to the west and the east Adriatic Sea. It is the actual heel of the boot, and contains within it many villages of the three the provinces of Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto: the three vertices of the triangle are formed right from the province of Taranto, in the province of Pilone Ostuni and Santa Maria di Leuca, the most southern end of the entire Puglia region. The tourist success of this Italian area is linked not only to history but also to the traditions and gastronomic richness of the territory that has charmed himself every world traveler. With regard to history and art, the common element between the countries falling in the Salento is the Baroque, the most famous and appreciated is undoubtedly that of the city of Lecce, rich in history of Baroque art. But also in smaller towns such as Martina Franca in the province of Taranto and Cisternino in Brindisi, you can admire the wonders of the Baroque of Salento, and the beauty of the local stone. But the Salento is also food and wine culture: among the typical dishes there are the rustic and the famous Salento puccia, a dough similar to bread that is filled with every culinary goodness. To these we must add the tarallini, friselle with tomato and olive oil, fresh pasta, like orecchiette, sweets like bocconotto and Ceglie pastas, and finally the DOC wines, such as Primitivo and Negroamaro. It is basically a rustic kitchen and even today many grandmothers and moms love to devote to the preparation of typical dishes of Salento. In recent years Salento has also managed to raise awareness of the beauty of its sea and of its beaches that have nothing to envy to those of the Maldives or the Caribbean. Every year the Salento coasts, especially those along the Ionian coast that starts from the town of Taranto, Gallipoli, are filled with tourists who are fascinated in front of the crystalline water of these white sandy beaches and fine. The most popular destination is Marina di Pescoluse, dubbed by tourists the Maldives of Salento. Many beach resorts have equipped themselves recently offering their customers the entrance with chairs and umbrella at a price much lower than other more commercial goals. 'Also the immense hospitality of the locals to fly bookings in the summer season where there is also all sold out well in advance. For younger people, especially in the area near Gallipoli, there are plenty of nightclubs where you can dance on the beach, sipping drinks and spirits in the moonlight.
